Six of us went on a trip to Nicaragua in January of 2010 through the Moravian Church. It was a truly amazing experience and one that we will never forget. We saw God work within and around us everywhere we went. It was a very impactful trip for all of us. Mission trips are great, but they are just that: trips. We knew that even after the trip ended, we had to keep the mission of sharing God’s grace alive.
During the trip, we felt that we could not just leave our mission experience in the past but keep it going into the future. Our way of doing that came through the idea of an online catalog. We strongly believe God has called us to this purpose and continues to inspire us by giving us new ideas for what Common Bread can do.
To be a Christian based organization actively reflecting the values of the church as they are presented in Acts chapter 2, through a commitment to Christian living and giving that results from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
To encourage, connect and further opportunities for people to live a Christian example by increasing the resources available to both short and long term mission projects in places of need.
The people we met on our trip were truly outstanding. We saw God through their words, actions, and generosity. Some of these people are now forever our friends. People like this can be found on any mission trip, but sometimes communication and connections are lost. We refuse to let that happen. We want to see these relationships grow through Christ and we want those people to see that we will never forget them and the time we spent together.
Some communities do not have the comforts that we have back home. There are resources that they need that we could easily help to provide. Some of the requests that we received for tools, toys, school supplies, and other things could be fulfilled by our group of six. Imagine what could be accomplished if more people were to get involved in the giving process.
We realize that many churches and organizations are doing mission work all over the world, which is wonderful. However, it’s hard to keep track of what and where all this is taking place. We want to help connect organizations to better facilitate giving and missions throughout the world.
After talking about our own mission trips, a common response we hear is something along the lines of “I wish I could do something like that, but I just don’t have the time to go on a trip like that.” We want to give an opportunity to all those people and let them know that you don’t have to go on an international trip to do mission work. If you can’t give your time, this website is an opportunity to give what you have to people who may desperately need it. But if you feel you are being called on a trip, contact Common Bread and we can point you in the right direction and show you what opportunities are out there through our connections.
